MTI was founded by Dr. Jae Son, an entrepreneur and inventor. While completing his dissertation on "Giving Robots the Sense of Touch," Dr. Son was unable to find a sensor that was suitable for his research, so he developed his own sensor -- one that would emulate the human sense of touch. Years later, his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is fine now, but experiencing the process of diagnosis with his mother reinforced the need for a more effective tool to aid physicians in locating and documenting breast lesions. Dr. Son's technology is the backbone of FDA cleared "SureTouch™", which uses Tactile Elasticity Imaging technology in performing clinical breast exams.
Our partner, Artann Laboratories under the leadership of Dr. Armen Sarvazyan, is a leading expert in the field of tactile elasticiy imaging. With the financial assistance from the prestigious National Institute of Health's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants, we have developed proprietary advanced tactile elasticity image enhancement, feature extraction, and 3D tactile imaging technology. MTI and Artann Laboratories have established a strategic partnership agreement where MTI has exclusive rights to all present and future IP created by Artann relating to the breast field.
